Our Mission

The Healthy Campus and Community Coalition exists to nurture and sustain partnerships between the College’s and Village’s leaders, students, community members and other stakeholders to prevent illegal and high risk alcohol and other drug consumption.

Our Vision

Geneseo will be a mutually respectful, collaborative, inclusive community that effectively promotes shared responsibilities for individual well-being.

Hc3 brings together the experience and expertise of its members to examine and address issues of substance misuse and its consequences to our campus and community.

College: a high-risk stage of life.

According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), young adults aged 18-25 show the highest level of all age groups of alcohol and other drug use, substance use disorders, mental health issues, and suicidal thinking and attempts.

Nearly 50% of students binge drink.

Binge drinking is a major problem on college campuses with sometimes serious consequences for students and communities. In a recent survey of SUNY Geneseo students, nearly half of our students had engaged in binge drinking one or more times in the past 30 days.

45% of students do something they later regret while drinking.

We know that 25% of adults with an addiction to alcohol or other drugs began using these substances before the age of 19. While long-term consequences aren’t always meaningful to adolescents and young adults, the immediate consequences are just as important.

Social Norms Media Campaign

The goal of a Social Norms campaign is to provide more accurate information about drinking and drug use and attitudes toward it, to counter common beliefs about its popularity.
